If you had decided to update your Galaxy S with the new CM10.1 RC5 JB 4.2.2 custom ROM, then first of all unsure that your smartphone is
rooted and installed with a custom recovery image. The firmware can be applied only on a
rooted system and only by using a custom recovery tool, like CWM recovery.
Procedure to Update Galaxy S I9000 with CM10.1 RC5 JB 4.2.2 Custom ROM Firmware :

- Download the CM10.1 RC5 firmware from here.
- Use the link from here and download the Google Apps package.
- Save the files on your computer.
- Don’t unzip the files.
- Connect the Galaxy S with the PC; use its USB cord.
- Copy-paste, or just drag and drop both downloaded files from the computer to your phone’s SD card.
- Disconnect the handset from the PC by removing the USB cable.
- Turn off your smartphone.
- Reboot it into recovery mode – press and hold Power, Volume Up and Home buttons at the same time.
- From recovery first of all wipe the data; you can do this by selecting “wipe data factory reset” and “wipe cache partition”.
- Return to the main menu and by using the same this time choose “install zip from sd card” followed by “choose zip from sd card”.
- Pick the CM10.1 update and flash the same on your Galaxy S.
- Wait while the ROM is being installed.
- In the end, repeat the step and install the Google Apps package too.
- Select “+++go back+++” and “reboot system now”.
- Done.
